With the new addition of 1.16 to Minecraft, a lot of people are out there looking for mods! We're taking a look at the best mods for Minecraft 1.16 that are available currently. While not everything you are used to is updated yet, there's still quite a bit of good stuff out there and we've sifted through it all to give you the top options to modify your current build of the game.
One of the greatest things about Minecraft is the ability to play it your own way. While there's a solid base game that you can happily enjoy, you can crank it up as far as you want to go with so many amazing mods. You can change up the entire gameplay, or you can just add a simple mod or two just to alleviate a part of the game that you might not find overly enjoyable.
Be sure to read through the description of each mod! Some require specific libraries and mod loaders for them to function properly.
All the Best Minecraft 1.16 Mods List
Biomes O' Plenty
If you're looking to really vary up your next Minecraft world, then one of the best ways to do it is to install the Biomes O' Plenty mod. This will add a ton of beautiful new biomes that you can explore in the Overworld and Nether! There's coniferous forest, meadows, alps, cherry blossom groves, seasonal forest, pumpkin patch, maple wood, pasture, lavender field, grove, tropics, volcano, crystalline chasm, undergrowth, and a whole lot more! If any of those sound interesting to you, make sure to pick up this mod right away!

Mekanism
This is less of a mod and more of a total game changer! If you're ready to really up your machinery, then you can add Mekanism as your next game modification. This adds a ton of new stuff like seismic vibrators, cables, boilers, turbines, and even allows you to create a hydrogen-powered jetpack to fly around with! If you want a totally new experience to try in Minecraft, then this mod will help you do it!
Neat
If you're tired of the same old Minecraft UI, then Neat is a mod that will modernize it for you. This reminds me of some of the stuff you do in World of Warcraft, where you can clean up your toolbar and add nameplates to enemies! It's a simple mod, but this will make a big difference in terms of clutter on your screen.
Storage Drawers
If you're a bit of a neat freak then you will welcome this mod! This will give you a bunch of different options for storage that will have your building area looking like a well organized shop. You can create storage with multiple different sizes, and have a bunch of different drawers:
- Half-size 2x2: Stores 4 stacks per drawer.
- Half-size 1x2: Stores 8 stacks per drawer.
- Full-size 2x2: Stores 8 stacks per drawer.
- Full-size 1x2: Stores 16 stacks per drawer.
- Full-size 1x1: Stores 32 stacks per drawer.
Utilize all of these to really make things easier for you when you're looking to build the room you plan to do the majority of you building in!
Decorative Blocks
This is again for the decorative builder out there who needs more blocks to work with. This mod will give you some wonderful new additions to the game that can really add immense details to your builds. You get a bonfire, thatch, wooden palisades, wooden beam blocks, brazier, chandelier, rocky dirt, stone pillar, big chain, bar panel, lattice, wooden seats, and wooden supports! That's a whole lot of additional blocks to work around your next home.
AppleSkin
If you're a hardcore Survival player, then you probably know the struggle of keeping yourself fed and saturated. However, this process can be made a lot simpler with the AppleSkin mod! Instead of just seeing your hunger status, you will now see a visualization of your saturation level. This gives you a lot more information on when and what you'll need to eat. When you select a food item, it will also display how much hunger and saturation it will replenish!
Xaero's Minimap
If you don't want to bother with maps in Minecraft that can be a bit unwieldy, then grabbing yourself a minimap is a good idea. Xaero's version is quite good, and keeps the spirit of Minecraft within its design. I really love map mods because I tend to explore quite a few seeds and they make things a lot easier. If you want to go even further, you can also get Xaero's World Map to give yourself a lot more viewing space.
Vanilla Pro 1 2 20 Die
Gravestone Mod
If you're tired of mining for hours and then dying horrifically to lava or a creeper then this mod might help ease some of your frustration. This gives you a 'death note' when you die that has the exact coordinates for where you perished. If you go to the spot where your body should be, you will find a gravestone instead. If you break the gravestone, all of your loot will then popout!
Fast Leaf Decay (Forge)
1/2-20 Thread

One of kind of the weird things about trees in Minecraft is that when you chop one down the leaves stick around for a while. They slowly kind of disappear, but this can be kind of jarring and weird. So, the Fast Leaf Decay mod seeks to make that better by making them fade away much quicker. By default with this mod, it only takes about five seconds for them to evaporate from existence.
Iron Chests
This is a very popular mod that adds the ability to create a ton of different chests of various qualities that have a whole lot more storage potential! There's chests you can make out of dirt, iron, gold, diamond, obsidian, and much more.
Just Enough Items
A very popular mod that allows you to see the recipes and each and everything that is require for crafting a particular item. It has a great search system and even allows for the searching of items from other mods!
Macaw's Bridges
While this is a fairly simple mod, it adds a pretty nifty feature to the game. While you would normally be stuck kind of creating your own bridge, this mod will give you some beautiful looking blocks to create ones with. They can be all of the different wood types, as well as utilizing a fair amount of the different stone that is available in the game. If you like striking a nice look and feel to your world, then you will want to have some beautiful looking bridges!
Miner's Helmet
If you want to give yourself a bit more of an authentic mining feel then why not head into the caves with a mining helmet! Instead of placing a ton of torches all over the place, you can don this helmet that has a light on it to illuminate dark areas in which you are exploring. If you don't want to craft it yourself, you can always seek out some zombies who have the possibility to spawn with the helmet as well as an iron pickaxe!
How-to Install Mods
First, you will need to have a PC version of Minecraft. Not only that, you will need to have the Java version of the game. If you have the Windows 10 version, there's some very limited addons you can install, but they aren't anywhere near the mods that can be added to the Java version. Now that you have that squared away, you will want to download Forge, which has been updated for 1.16. Make sure to download the Installer version unless you have a good idea of what you're doing. That will automatically install it into your Minecraft folder, and you will be able to launch the Forge version from the Minecraft launcher.
Go ahead and launch Minecraft, you will now see a Mods selection on the first screen you see when you open up Minecraft. Click on that then click on the Open Mods Folder button at the bottom left corner. You can now just drop any mods you download right into that folder and manage them in the game with Forge!
